5G Guys | Tech Talks

Nov 10, 2021

Imagine this, you’re getting ready for a big event you are hosting and you have done everything you can do to make sure the party goes perfect. You got the best food, booked the entertainment, made sure you got a babysitter, you pulled out your best clothes, you’re getting ready to leave, and then out of nowhere...

Your preparations and planning take a 180 and the party has to be moved...

Well, we imagine the executives of Verizon and AT&T have a similar feeling right now.

Welcome back to 5G Guys! Last week (Nov 2, 2021) the FAA issued a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin warning about potential risks to aviators in the US using older radio altimeter technology. That the new 5G deployments in a new frequency band (called C Band) could cause interference. In response, AT&T and Verizon announced they would be delaying their start to deploying 5G in their newly acquired C Band spectrum one month from Dec 5th, 2021 to Jan 5th, 2022.

Listen in as we discuss what this breaking news means for the big three carriers and how that affects our economy. We talk about exactly how much money this delay will cost, why the FAA is bringing this up now, and other possible theories for pushing the rollout to the beginning of next year. There are a lot of different factors that go into green-lighting these decisions, we go over some of these and more in today’s episode. One thing is for sure when the private sector crosses with federal agencies it makes for some interesting dynamics and news we‘ll be sure to keep an eye on.

Despite the disappointing nature of it all, both Verizon and AT&T are committed to serving over 100 million people next year alone. For more resources check out the links below!
